Description
A rare view of the beautiful spiral staircase in the historic Nuckolls-Jefferies house on Asbury Road in Cherokee County, South Carolina. Situated on the grounds of what is known as the 1790 Wagstop Plantation, the house was originally built in 1843 for William Thompson Nuckolls, a lawyer and politician. After his death, the house passed through several owners until it was acquired by John D. Jefferies, a Confederate veteran and businessman. It has since gone through several renovations by later owners. Built in the Greek Revival Style of the antebellum period and altered in the Neo-Classical style of the post-Civil War era, it is a fine example of a mid-19th century plantation house with significant late-19th century alterations. The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
