Description
Mulberry Chapel Methodist Church, built circa 1880-1890, was the first African American Church in what was to become Cherokee County, South Carolina. It is a wonderful example of the vernacular form of Gothic Revival ecclesiastical architecture. Located on Asbury Road, it is one of only a few such structures still in existence in the state. The Chapel and its property are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is still used for church family reunions and is slated for restoration.
